Hyaluronic Acid is formed by skin cells and is part of the connective tissue of the skin. One of its key functions is to retain moisture, and it has the ability to bind in between 1,000 and 10,000 times its own weight in water (i.e. one gram binds between one and ten liters). As we age, the skin's natural ability to produce Hyaluronic Acid depletes and wrinkles start to form and deepen.
Gluco-Glycerol (also known as Glyceryl Glucoside) is a nature-identical combination of glycerol and glucose. Used by blue-green algae to ensure their survival for 3.5 billion years, Gluco-Glycerol has been proven to stimulate the creation of Aquaporin 3 (AQP3) in human skin cells, thus increasing the number of aquaporins. Aquaporins control water transfer into and out of the cells. The more AQP3’s there are, the better the distribution of moisture within the deeper layers of skin.
By stimulating skin’s own water system, Gluco-Glycerol helps to moisture skin and improve its barrier function.
APG Complex (short for Alkylpolyglucoside) is an extra mild cleanser. The `G` stands for Glucoside, which is a nature-derived surfactant. Surfactants are the active ingredients in cleansers that enable them to clean the skin by lifting and removing impurities. There are several different types of surfactant widely used in skin cleaning products. Anionic (negatively charged) surfactants are often used because of their great foaming properties, but Glucoside (which is non-ionic, with no charge) is proven to be particularly gentle on the skin.
What is the best facial cleanser for my skin?
Firstly, choose a cleanser that’s suitable for your skin type and condition and is proven to cleanse effectively but gently. Secondly, choose a product you’ll enjoy using – we all have different textural preferences and different ways we like to cleanse. Eucerin offers a comprehensive range of cleansers for different skin types and in different textures. Can I not just use soap and water to wash my face?
Many soaps are strong in alkali and can damage the skin’s natural protective layer and irritate and dry it out. Eucerin DermatoCLEAN [HYALURON] cleansers are kind of your skin and protect them from drying out. Sebum (the oily substance that your skin produces naturally to stop it drying out) is not water soluble and so will not be removed by washing your face with water alone.
Does this cleanser remove stubborn mascara or waterproof eye make-up?
If you’re wearing stubborn mascara or waterproof eye make-up we recommend you remove it before cleansing with Eucerin DermatoCLEAN Micellar Eye Make-Up Remover.
How often should I cleanse my face?
We recommend that you cleanse your face in the morning and in the evening. The sebaceous glands in your skin produce sebum – an oily substance that keeps it from drying out – both during the day and overnight. Cleansing in the morning ensures that you remove this sebum. At the end of the day you need to remove sebum, sweat, pollution and any make-up that you may have been wearing. Cleansing your skin also ensures that it’s able to absorb the active ingredients in your care products.
Do I need to use toner after cleansing?
Ideally yes. Eucerin DermatoCLEAN [HYALURON] Toner is a valuable last step in your cleansing routine. Toner helps to restore your skin’s optimal pH and leaves your skin feeling refreshed and ready to fully absorb the active ingredients in your care product. And, because our DermatoCLEAN [HYALURON] Toner is alcohol-free and contains Hyaluronic Acid, it’s gentle on your skin and helps to support skin moisturization.
